OUTLAWS BRAWL IN BYRON WITH ALL 7 SECOND FIELD….
05/06/07 was a history making day at Byron Dragway. The Outlaws welcomed 4 new members, Dave Klaput, Jeff Noesen, Jill Hicks and Dewayne Holbrook.
#1 qualifier Brian Hicks started the show with an unbelievable wheelstand and a 7.782 ET. That’s right….first run breaks the OSSA ET record held by Jerry Sevik. With a 19 car field, there were lots of personal bests. Edwin Robles grabbed the #2 qualifying position with his 7.83 run. He was bumped to #3 when Jeff Noesen turned in a 7.787. What? TWO 7.78’s in qualifying! This was going to be a fast field. Bill Houghton took #4 with a 7.84. Dave Klaput took #5 with a pair of 7.85’s. Did somebody tell him this was bracket racing? Joe Stiles was #6 with a 7.88. Rookie Jill Hicks was #7 with a 7.92 and Ed Moore was the bump at 7.95. Wow! Several drivers did not qualify with 7.97’s and a 7.98. This was the first race in OSSA history with an all 7 second field.
Round one had Bill Houghton lined up against Dave Klaput. Bill red lit, but Dave turned in a 7.76! What?!! Another OSSA record ET! Ed Moore lined up against Brian Hicks who looked like he couldn’t be beat, but had a major problem mid-track and Ed took the win. Joe Stiles faced Edwin Robles who also had a fire mid track and Joe took the win. Finally Jeff Noesen faced Jill Hicks who had trouble at the line and Jeff took the win with a 7.82.
Semi Finals pitted Ed Moore against Dave Klaput who ran a clean 7.90 to take the win. Jeff Noesen had a bye run with a 7.76 against Joe Stiles who broke and did not run. Another 7.76 run! Holy cow, this was a record setting day.
Finals were Dave Klaput against Jeff Noesen with the win going to Jeff with ANOTHER 7.76 run against Dave’s 7.86. Congratulations Jeff on not only taking the win at Byron, but being the NEW OUTLAW SUPERSTOCK RECORD ET HOLDER
